By now that tale is well known. What can be done? The Undershaw Preservation Trust led by Lynn Gale, with Undershaw carefully researched and documented by John Gibson and famously supported by many stellar Sherlockians including Stephen Fry and Mark Gatiss, has drawn great attention to the house and its current state.

What’s next?

At the time of this writing, Undershaw is currently on the market. Can a consortium of Sherlockians manage to purchase and restore it before someone buys it and turns it into condos or razes it for a shopping centre or a parking lot?

A museum/cultural heritage Conan Doyle Centre is the vision of Marek Ujma, who along with a few others, hopes to build on the work of the Undershaw Preservation Trust and to elicit financial support for such a project. To that end he’s created The Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Heritage Centre project. The clock is ticking.

On a later visit, midwinter, Luke and I travel through snow to arrive again at Undershaw.
